Institutional Partners

The University of Arizona is a proud Diamond member of the Arizona Mexico Commission, which has been the premier forum for fostering relationships between Arizona and Mexico for over 60 years.  Within the AMC, the University of Arizona is honored to lead and participate in multiple committees and initiatives that contribute to creating understanding and strengthening relationships in trade and commerce, education and research, and improving the wellbeing of residents of both Arizona and Mexico.

The Arizona-Sonora Interuniversity Alliance (AISA as it is abbreviated in Spanish) is a binational, regional alliance focused on supporting cross-border academic exchange and research collaboration to promote science, education and innovation in the Arizona-Sonora region. The members of AISA are:

The University of Arizona maintains an active collaboration with the National Association of Polytechnic Universities (ANUP) focused on providing opportunities for faculty exchange and internships to ANUP's member institutions.

The Binational Border Health Network is an initiative funded by CONACYT addressing the priorities established in the Healthy Border 2020 Initiative which detail five public health priorities of binational concern, including chronic and degenerative diseases, infectious diseases, maternal and child health, mental health and addiction, and injury prevention in the U.S. - Mexico border region.

CIAD (Center for Research on Food Science and Regional Development) is a CONACYT Center for Research Excellence with a focus on food science, agricultural production, regional development, and public health based in Hermosillo, Sonora.

The University of Arizona Department of Mathematics maintains an active collaboration with CIMAT and is exploring a program to create CIMAT's undergraduate study abroad program titled "Math in Mexico."

The James E. Rogers College of Law and the School of Government and Public Policy maintain an active collaboration with CIDE.  Students from CIDE have a dual degree option with the University of Arizona which allows them to complete their Título de Licenciado en Derecho at CIDE and their Juris Doctor at the University of Arizona.

CRESON is a regional center for the formation of the teaching corps for the public primary and secondary education systems in the State of Sonora and for research on teaching, learning and pedagogy.  The University of Arizona College of Education is actively engaged with CRESON in the development of cross-border collaborations focused on pre-service teacher training and diversity and inclusion.

COECYT is the state council for science and technology for the State of Sonora.  The University of Arizona partners with COECYT on regional programming to enhance academic and research efforts in the STEM disciplines and to create new educational opportunities for Sonoran students.

El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (COLEF) is an institution of higher education and research dedicated to the study of the regional phenomena related to the U.S-Mexico border from a multidisciplinary perspective.  Multiple colleges and departments and the University of Arizona maintain active collaborations with partners at COLEF including Social and Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, and Planning and Architecture.

Located in the central Mexican state of San Luis PotosÍ, COLSAN is a CONACYT Public Research Center focused on research in the social sciences and humanities.

El Colegio de Sonora (COLSON) is an institution of higher education and research focused on the social sciences and the humanities.  Many colleges and departments at the University of Arizona maintain close collaborations with COLSON focused on important regional and cross-border issues.

Instituto Interamericano de Educación Superior (IIESS) is a private university focused on training professionals in the health sciences located in Guaymas, Sonora.  The University of Arizona College of Nursing actively collaborates with IIESS on collaborative training and research programs for Nursing students at both institutions.

The Matías Romero Institute is Mexico's diplomatic academy formed in 1974 by the Ministry of Foreign Relations. with the mission of preparing personnel for the Mexican Foreign Service.  The James E. Rogers College of Law maintains an active collaboration with the IMR, including the Diplomat Training Program in U.S. Law.

UArizona and ITSON maintain a longstanding and productive collaboration across many disciplines, with a special focus on arid lands agriculture and water management.

Part of the National Technological Institute of Mexico (Tec Nacional), ITSC is located in Cananea, Sonora, a region of intensive mining activity.  The University of Arizona is focused on developing collaborative academic programming in the area of mining engineering with ITSC, as well as English language training programs for ITSC students.

The University of Arizona maintains an active collaboration with ITESM focused on student and faculty mobility and research collaboration.

Arizona Law is a founding member of NACLE with the aim of preparing law students the unique North American market. NACLE is comprised of 13 law schools in Canada, Mexico and the U.S.. The general purpose of NACLE is to promote and share understanding of the legal systems within North American countries. The specific purpose of the Consortium is to enhance the capabilities of each member to provide high quality legal education and research appropriate to the demands of the professional environment in North America.

The University of Arizona maintains an active collaboration with the Secretariat of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (SECTEI) of the State of Mexico City goverment (CDMX) focused on research collaboration in the areas of food security and sustainability.

The University of Arizona School of Journalism maintains an active collaboration centered on faculty exchange with Universidad Anáhuac - Mexico Norte.

The Antonio Narro Autonomous Agrarian University is located in Saltillo, Coahuila and is focused on the formation of professionals to serve the needs of the agricultural sector and to conduct research related to improving quality of life and sustainable development.  The University of Arizona Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering maintains an active collaboration with UAAAN.

The University of Arizona has a longstanding and productive collaborative relationship with Chapingo, focused in the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering and the School of Natural Resources and the Environment, with both departments offering dual degrees at the graduate level with UAC.

The Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC) is one of the largest comprehensive public universities in the northwest of Mexico and shares many academic and research interests with UArizona, especially agricultural production and water management in arid lands.

The Autonomous University of Coahuila is the largest comprehensive public university in the north-central state of Coahuila.  The University of Arizona's College of Pharmacy maintains an active research and exchange agreement with the Unidad Torreón focused on pharmacology and toxicology.

The Universidad Autónoma de Occidente is a public, autonomous university based in Los Mochis, Sinaloa with six additional campuses located throughout Sinaloa.  The University of Arizona maintains an active collaboration with UAdeO including student and faculty exchange and research collaborations focused on plant sciences.

UASLP and UArizona maintain an active collaboration focused on strengthening research collaborations and faculty and scholar exchange.

As the largest, comprehensive public university in Sinaloa, UAS and UArizona have maintained a productive collaborative relationship for decades, with a special focus on architecture, public health and the social sciences.

One of Mexico's most important public universities, the University of Guanajuato is a valued partner of the University of Arizona across many disciplines and a longstanding partnership endures with the College of Education focused on teacher training.  Additionally, the Universidad de Guanajuato was an founding participant in the University's Verano de Investigación.

UNISON is one of Mexico's leading public universities and a valued partner of the University of Arizona.  As the most important institution of higher education in Sonora, UNISON and the University of Arizona have developed numerous collaborations over the decades and continue to forge new partnerships in the 21st Century focused on serving the needs of the Arizona-Sonora Megaregion.

The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health maintains an active collaboration with UVM through the Binational Network for Health Communities.

The University of Arizona Department of Mexican American Studies maintains an active collaboration focused on research and exchange with Universidad Kino, a private university located in Hermosillo, Sonora.

UPAEP is a private university located in the eponymous capital of the State of Puebla and is the site of a University of Arizona microcampus.

The School of Anthropology in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health maintain an active collaboration focused on faculty and student exchange and research collaboration with partners at the Universidad Tecnológica de Nogales.
